Jakarta kota termahal di Indonesia? Ternyata bukan. Kota termahal di
Indonesia adalah Balikpapan. Sementara Bandar Lampung dan Mataram
menjadi kota termurah di Indonesia.

Demikian hasil Survei Biaya Hidup 2008 yang dilakukan Mercer Indonesia,
seperti dipublikasikan, Jumat (29/8/2008). Survei dilakukan secara
serentak di 26 kota utama di seluruh Indonesia selama Juli 2008, atau
dua bulan setelah kebijakan kenaikan harga BBM.

Jakarta, ibukota negara sekaligus pusat kegiatan bisnis terbesar di
Indonesia, dijadikan kota basis pada survei ini (indeks 100). Kota-kota
lain yang disurvei diperhitungkan indeksnya terhadap kota Jakarta
sebagai kota basis.

Balikpapan tercatat sebagai kota termahal dengan indeks 107, naik 3 poin
dari 104 pada tahun 2006. Sementara Jakarta adalah kota kedua termahal.

Sedangkan kota Bekasi dan Samarinda yang seri di peringkat ke-3 dengan
skor indeks 94 diikuti kota Bogor dan Jayapura pada peringkat ke-5 dan
ke-6. Kota termurah yaitu Bandar Lampung dan Mataram, keduanya dengan
skor indeks 75, berada di peringkat ke 25.

Apabila dibandingkan dengan survei serupa yang dilakukan Mercer
Indonesia pada bulan Juni 2006, hasil survei ini memperlihatkan kenaikan
angka biaya hidup secara merata di seluruh wilayah Indonesia.

“Kenaikan biaya hidup ini adalah imbas dari kenaikan BBM pada bulan Mei
2008 selain sebelumnya juga telah ada kenaikan tarif dasar listrik pada
bulan Maret 2008. Keduanya dirasakan sebagai penyebab yang sangat
signifikan di semua sektor. Selain itu juga ada beberapa kenaikan tarif
yang terjadi pada kota-kota tertentu saja, misalnya kenaikan tarif jalan
tol di Jakarta pada bulan September 2007,” urai Mutiarawaty Thaher,
Information Product Solutions Business Leader PT. Mercer Indonesia.

Kategori biaya hidup yang disurvei mencakup biaya kebutuhan makanan,
kebutuhan pokok, transportasi, utilitas, perumahan, pendidikan,
kesehatan serta hiburan dan olah raga. Untuk hiburan dan olahraga,
indeks Jakarta jauh lebih tinggi dibandingkan kota-kota lain, walaupun
secara keseluruhan Jakarta masih berada di peringkat kedua dengan 7 skor
di bawah Balikpapan.

Beberapa kota turun peringkatnya dibandingkan dengan peringkat pada
survei biaya hidup tahun 2006. Kota Denpasar (skor 80) turun 16
peringkat dari peringkat 8 ke peringkat 24, juga kota Banjarmasin (skor
85) turun dari peringkat 4 ke peringkat 14. Sedangkan kota-kota yang
naik peringkatnya adalah Bekasi (skor 94) dari peringkat 10 di tahun
2006 ke peringkat 3 di tahun 2008, juga kota Medan (skor 89) yang naik
dari peringkat 15 ke peringkat 8.
